History of Haitian Flag Day!!

Happy Haitian Flag Day to all my Haitians and those who love us! Today’s post is dedicated to giving you some insight on the history of this beautiful flag!

The Haitian flag originated after the Haitian people successfully revolted from the French. Jean-Jacques Dessalines (a Haitian Revolution Leader) took a French flag and ripped out the white center, which he discarded. He then asked Catherine Flon, his god-daughter, to sew the remaining bands together. With the white part removed, the blue was taken to represent Haiti’s black citizens and the red represented the gens de couleur (French term meaning people of color). Today is the anniversary of that commemorative day and is celebrated by Haitians all over the world. We are proud of its purpose and continue to celebrate its meaning to us! 😊

An Anniversary Never Worth Forgetting!

image

Today marks the 5th Anniversary of the strongest earthquake that caused many in Haiti to lose their lives! On that day my tears could not stop flowing. To see the amount of damage, devastation and despair was just heart wrenching.

Today many are still mourning the death of their loved ones. They will relive the painful memory. I will pray for peace and comfort. However one thing I am certain of is that the Haitian people are a reliant people. They know how to push through and they always bounce back!  I am proud to have the blood of such a blessed people running through my viens!

Fun Filled Weekend!

This weekend was really fun filled for me. Friday night I attended a free Comedy Show in downtown DC. Ain’t nothing like free y’all lol. Some of the stand-up comedy was iffy but some were quite hilarious. A good laugh doesn’t hurt every now and then. Saturday night I helped my good friend celebrate her last weekend as a single woman!! We attended dinner at the illustrious National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD and partied hard on the U Street corridor. Those of you in the DC/MD/VA area know how live U Street can be! Check out the pics below.

I also celebrated Haitian Flag Day yesterday. Had a blast with my friends and other Haitians like myself. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as well!
