Did you miss me?!

Man, it has been a minute (well not literally a minute but you understand what I’m trying to say lol) since I’ve posted on this blog. And honestly, I have no valid excuse as to why I have not made an attempt to post. I told myself I would do better but the lazier side of me won.  So as I have said in the past…I will do better!!! 🙂

To begin, Happy New Year!! I hope your new year has started off amazingly well and I hope this year is good to you. I actually look forward to what this year will possibly bring. I can’t say my 2016 was a great year. Many lessons learned and I definitely had some growth opportunities. I am just grateful I made it through.

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I typically don’t. Simply because I would make them and then by like March I would forget all about accomplishing them. Sad huh?! Nowadays I try to make conscious efforts to do/be better. Like learning a new fact daily. Or committing to reading an entire book (this can be hard for me because I sometimes have the attention span of a child). Helping a friend in need. Or calling my loved ones more often. At times reading my short term and long term goals (as a reminder of the things I need to do to achieve them). Or even re-visiting a dusty old vision board. For me, conscious reminders are just as important as setting goals. In my eyes, as long as you are making an attempt to be better today than you were yesterday, its one more step towards being a greater you.

So cheers to the new year! To new lessons, new growth opportunities, new reminders and new memories! 💋 😘

This Too Shall Pass!

Greetings Virtual Friends!

The last month in my life has been really tough for me. Despite celebrating 2 new milestones in my life, other aspects of it just wasn’t falling into place. I had to make some hard decisions about how I was going to make it through. Decisions that would affect my future but would be well worth making. In the midst of my trial I found myself complaining, feeling down and even doubting my worth. Then I saw this:

Inspiration

We have to learn to take our focus off our problems and re-focus on what we want the outcome to be. Some things/thoughts/people are not worth the mental power. They aren’t worth the energy it takes to even keep them relevant. Reading this reminded me that I was giving into my situation verses letting it be a thing of the past. Found myself letting it mutate my thoughts and self worth. Let this post be an inspiration for you. Let it be a reminder that (as cliche as this sounds) there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Turn your test into a testimony. I know I will. 🙂

2 Corinthians 4: 17-18 “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long.  Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever.  So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen.  For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”

History of Haitian Flag Day!!

Happy Haitian Flag Day to all my Haitians and those who love us! Today’s post is dedicated to giving you some insight on the history of this beautiful flag!

The Haitian flag originated after the Haitian people successfully revolted from the French. Jean-Jacques Dessalines (a Haitian Revolution Leader) took a French flag and ripped out the white center, which he discarded. He then asked Catherine Flon, his god-daughter, to sew the remaining bands together. With the white part removed, the blue was taken to represent Haiti’s black citizens and the red represented the gens de couleur (French term meaning people of color). Today is the anniversary of that commemorative day and is celebrated by Haitians all over the world. We are proud of its purpose and continue to celebrate its meaning to us! 😊

Hope this small history lesson helped you learn a little bit about my countries flag!!

The Art of Being Grateful!!

Happy Monday my good people. It has been a while since I’ve actually written a post and I promise I will do better! But today I just wanted to write. And this post maybe all over the place but it’s my party and I’ll write how I want to!! 🙂

Can we talk about the word gratefulness?!?! I have learned in my life that complaining does nothing but make you seem, feel, sound (insert whatever word you see fit) ungrateful. And it comes to a point where even others start to view you as that always ungrateful person. And frankly that can be tiring. How about you try to look at the brighter side of a bad situation. Or even consider the fact that “it could be worse!” And the “woe is me” attitude isn’t cute and is just played out!

Let’s face it, life will not always be peaches and cream. You won’t always wake up happy but I bet if you put forth the effort of remaining grateful those bad days can soon become better! I encourage you to try and see things/situations in a better light. Develop a more positive attitude daily. Make it your goal to see the better/brighter side of a tough/sad/trying situation. That way you don’t exude that ungrateful spirit! May your week be filled with positivity, productivity and prosperity! 🙂

An Anniversary Never Worth Forgetting!

image

Today marks the 5th Anniversary of the strongest earthquake that caused many in Haiti to lose their lives! On that day my tears could not stop flowing. To see the amount of damage, devastation and despair was just heart wrenching.

Today many are still mourning the death of their loved ones. They will relive the painful memory. I will pray for peace and comfort. However one thing I am certain of is that the Haitian people are a reliant people. They know how to push through and they always bounce back!  I am proud to have the blood of such a blessed people running through my viens!

Let’s never forget! #L’unionFaitLaForce #WeAreA ReliantPeople #MyHeritage #NeverForget #HaitianPride #Ayiti #AyitiCherie #01122010

May I Have Your Attention Please…

It amazes me the lengths people go to to get noticed. I mean really is it that serious? Or is it even that important? Especially if you are attracting the wrong kind of attention. Don’t get me wrong getting noticed or being paid attention to is not a bad thing, it’s how you get or what you did to get that attention. For example, recently I went to a concert and noticed a heavier bodied young lady with shorts on that could probably give her a yeast infection. And I’m a firm believer of getting your sexy on however it’s just some things you just shouldn’t do or wear! Trust me I’m far from a hater. I can appreciate a women who exudes sex appeal. But if I were that young ladies friend I would have definitely kept it real with her. Again Rihanna wore a revealing ensemble recently to an awards ceremony. I guess this is expected of her because that wouldn’t have been the first time she decided to show/share her assets. But still is that what you want young women to see? Is this truly how you want to attract attention you so early seek? Going to such lengths for 5 minutes of fame never made sense to me. And it never will! I assume if celebrities will go to such lengths mediocre folks like myslef will do just as much. But let me say this….never lose your integrity for the spotlight. Even if it’s for a few seconds. Know your worth! Know your value! Know what abilities you have that will get you the right kind/type of attention! Because surely selling your soul won’t achieve what you are looking for in the grand scheme of things!

Happy Monday Folks! 🙂

Yet Another Icon Gone but Never Forgotten!

Image

I have never done two posts in one day however today warranted my doing so. Maya Angelou will always be remembered for her poetry, magnificent writing abilities and so much more! Everyone has their way of making an impact in the world…writing was hers. She not only wrote but acted, directed movies, produced plays and public television programs. What I cherish her for the most is her role in the Civil Rights Movement. This is an ancestor that should never be forgotten! May your beautiful soul rest in peace.

Below is a piece written by Ms. Angelou as a tribute to Haiti!

Homo sum. Humani nil a me alienum puto!

 I am a human being

Nothing human can be alien to me!

This statement was made

By Terentius Afer.

Terentius was a slave,

Sold to a Roman senator

Freed by that senator.

He became

The most popular playwright in Rome.

Five of his plays

And that statement has

Come down to us from 154 B.C.

That man

Not born white or free

Or with any chance

Of becoming a citizen

In the Rome of his day,

He said, “I am a human being.

Nothing human can be alien to me!”

I have ingested and digested that statement.

It activates me

And motivates me to say,

I’m yours

Haiti

Yours …”

#BringBackOurGirls

At times watching the news puts a strain on my emotions because it’s hard to face the realities of what our world presents. So as a result I rarely watch the news. However the kidnapping of almost 300 little girls in Nigeria struck a cord. Why? Because while this was going on we (in the US) were focused on the racial comments of a man who really no one knew of or probably even cared about. Ok let me speak for myself… 🙂 But it saddens me to know that as a parent you send your child to school and wake up one day to hear that they have been kidnapped. By a militant group who wants to make and prove a point. Can you imagine how scared those little girls must be?! There are so many questions and so little answers. Why has it taken the Nigerian government almost 20 days to intervene or even respond to this attack? Why has the military not been involved? Why do these parents have to take it upon themselves to go and find their children? I am not a parent…at least not yet; however I can not imagine how a mother or father feels at this very moment. I will make it a goal of mine to pray for the safety and the return of these little girls. If it’s anything I can do it’s that!

Happy Burfday Browny!!!

Today is a great day! And you should be able to tell by the tile of my piece why this is so…yup…it’s my boo bears birthday!! This little guy has been in my life the last 2 yrs and I can’t say that my life has remained the same. My priorities have changed, my money is spent on doctor visits/shots/dog food, I’ve had to play nurse/protector, and have even cried over this little being. He plays a major role in my life and God knows why him and I are in each others lives. At times I chat with him as if he knows what I am saying and can talk back to me lol. It’s the cutest thing when his little head turns sideways as if he’s saying “…umm you know I don’t understand right?!” Either way he’s my pal, my confidant, my best bud forever, my headache and much more!  I just couldn’t let the day go by without wishing my Browny Bear a Happy Birthday!!!! 🙂
